Dear Residents and Staff,
The Harold Residency is only 2 weeks away!! Staff is already out here getting set-up and enjoying the beautiful and serene atmosphere. We want to let you know some important information- this can also be found on the blog.
Harold’s programming is set up to facilitate collaborative projects and allow for artists to develop their own practices. Please use the blog, haroldarts2007.wordpress.com, to find collaborators. Express what aspects of your project you need physical or conceptual help with, and respond to the projects of others that interest you. Critiques, performances, and discussions will be scheduled through sign-up sheets. Guest artists have been invited to give lectures and workshops as well as work with residents. Activities are not mandatory, you can choose to participate or work on your own projects.
The response to Harold this year has been overwhelming. In order to accept as many applicants as possible, we are asking that residents share bedrooms and cabins. Please let us know if you have someone you would like as a roommate. We will try to accommodate everyone’s preferences, but space is limited.
Please let us know what your travel plans/needs are and where you are coming from. We are working to arrange car pools from both New York and Chicago.

The Jeffers Tree Farm is located 10 minutes from the town of Chesterhill with a population of 350 people. It is a very small town, so please bring all your own supplies. There will be opportunities to take the 40 minute ride to Athens if need be. Harold is a rugged experience. Expect to encounter wildlife and insects. Because of the farm’s remote location, water is brought in to us. In order to conserve water, showering will be limited to 5 minutes, 3 times a week and pond bathing is encouraged. Similarly, we encourage you to make use of outhouses.
Unfortunately, we are unable to receive Internet access on the farm this year. However, the nearby town, Chesterhill, is one of the first towns to have public wireless Internet throughout. We can arrange for trips to Chesterhill whenever the Internet is need.
Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions. There will be options for vegetarians and vegans. If there is anything else you think we need to know in terms of medical issues, please include that in your response.
What to bring
bedding- pillow, sleeping bag/sheets, blanket
flashlight/lantern
bug spray
sunscreen
rain jacket/umbrella/poncho
personal art supplies
art supplies to share
warm clothing – it can get quite cold in the evenings
water
toiletries- soap, shampoo
Please feel free to contact us at info@haroldarts.org with any issues. Unfortunately, a significant portion of our staff will be unavailable by telephone as Chesterhill is not a hub for cellphone coverage, although Jaimie Branch can be reached at (847) 707 6376. We look forward to our rendezvous in the woods, and hope that these details are helpful in making arrangements. More information coming soon, including driving directions. You can also plug in “Harold Jeffers Lane, Chesterhill, OH” into google maps to get specific directions from your exact location.
