Hi, I am working on a fairly large project and looking for people to collaborate in a variety of ways. About a year ago I finished the rough draft for a novel and I have decided to use the novel as a platform for all or most of my creative ventures in the next year or so, possibly much longer. Alot of my reasoning has to do with the means by which we interact with narratives, both in terms of defining our outlooks and also the way we use them as tools to aid in our perception. That sounds vague and meaningless I am sure, but such is life, the main thing is that I am trying to find ways for people other than myself to interact with and engage the narrative of the novel. For instances – A friend of mine works with GIS mapping and he is going to help me build a virtual model of a trail that the characters follow. Another person is a sailor and they are going to go on a sailing trip and mimic parts of a sailing trip the characters go on. One scene takes place on a battlefield and the character cannot see from where he is hiding and so his account of the battle is based entirely on the sound of it, I am trying to get as many people as possible to write a song based off that chapter… and so on. It doesn’t matter what people want to do, so long as the narrative is engaged somehow. I am simply tossing this out there.
Hey There,
I work with GIS software too, have access to Worldwatcher and Myworld. I think it might be appropriate for you to post some themes/ specific events that people could “riff” on. Or you could perhaps link to or post passages, like the one that you’re getting people to write songs based on.
Thanks,
Nick
Hi. I’m a performing artist primarily and would be interested in creating some sort of performance based on a section of your novel if that might be something you’d be interested in. I work with movement and text and could improvise something on the spot as you read from the novel, for example, or base a structured improvisation on a segment I become familiar with. Another idea I have is to create microperformances–tiny events performed in different locations and different times in relation to elements of the novel.
Sorry I haven´t been able to respond. I have been in Germany (am still) and been somewhat negligent on dealing with email and such concerns. I don´t have access to my stuff here and I think I would need to meet people before being able to figure out what chapter they would probably enjoy working from anyways. I can give this much of a description for the song one though. The chapter is essentially someone describing a battle being fought around them. They are hidden and in the dark and so can´t see anything, the only way they have to describe the battle is by the sounds they hear. It gets fairly abstract, and a german man is harassing me at the moment so… Julie, looking forward to it!
got to go
Justin,
your project sounds interesting. The film/video projects that I am currently working on and will be focusing on at Harold deals with my relationship to the narrative filmmaking process. I would look forward to talking about our projects and helping you out where I can.
